Over 50 Free Food Boxes Distributed to Person Co. Seniors

Over 50 Person Co. senior citizens received free food boxes from Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina Tues., Dec. 13, 2022.

"We are honored to be selected by the Food Bank to establish a food distribution site for seniors in Person Co.," said Felts Lewis, RHA executive director.  "We have proven to successfully serve the most vulnerable among us by providing and delivering healthy food on a consistent basis.  Staff continues to be ready to carry out this important initiative."

Any Person Co. resident that is 60 years of age and older that meets income requirements is eligible to get a free, monthly, 30-pound box of uncooked, shelf-stable food and a block of cheese.

All eligible participants are encouraged to sign-up the second Tuesday of each month at RHA's Lee Gardens Community Center located at 808 Lyle St. in Roxboro. 

Photo I.D, proof of Person County residency and proof of gross monthly household income falling within the eligibility range based upon household size (1 - $1,396, 2 - $1,888, 3 - $2,379, 4 - $2,2.871, 5+ - add $479 per additional household member)

Registered participants will get a monthly food box consisting of the following items:  two liquid milk cartons, four cans of vegetables, two boxes of cereal, two bottles of juice, three meatless proteins, two proteins, two grains and two cans of fruit. 

RHA partnered with the Food Bank in May 2020, as a meal distribution site.  Each weekday at lunch time, the former K&W Cafeteria prepared free, hot, nutritious meals for kids and families.  RHA staff set up pick-up sites. Over 250 meals were provided to youths at all RHA sites. Food boxes for eligible senior citizens started in Spring 2022.
