ROXBORO--Occupied unit painting and repair service has restarted, selecting units identified by Public Housing and Maintenance as being most severe to service. Senior residents and those that have resided with RHA the longest also receive priority service.
"The Authority has attracted over six different vendors to compete for the opportunity to carry out this overdue service," said Felts Lewis, executive director. "Once the resident's time comes, we provide a professional service that will transform the unit."
Vendors from as far as Charlotte responded to an invitation for bids solicitation in late March 2023. Six bids have been reviewed for completeness, experience and price. Selected vendors' employees and/or sub-contractors will undergo a thorough background check prior to starting work for residents' safety.
Since 2018 unit modernization efforts have been completed for numerous vacant units with all jobs procured prior to completion.
In late 2021, RHA started hiring contractors to move around personal items, paint and make repairs of occupied units.
Six of about 25 units identified as being in severe condition with paint peeling, broken doors and several other deficiencies have been completed. The agency overcame unit access delays in 2021 due to COVID-19 along with lack of funding in early 2022.
A robust effort to complete the identified units and of those in not as severe condition shall continue throughout 2023, obtaining the annual plan goal of 100 percent completion of occupied unit painting.
This is one of a few initiatives that RHA is carrying out to preserve and to add affordable housing in Roxboro.
