HUD Officials Visit RHA; Learn about Energy-Saving Initiatives

HUD PDAS Monocchio Visits Roxboro Housing 

ROXBORO, N.C.--HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Monocchio and his staff visited RHA sites on Fri., Apr. 26. RHA Executive Director Felts Lewis shared the agency's energy efficiency, energy resilience and green energy initiatives.

They include plans to install 50 small, energy-efficient A/C units at Lee Gardens Apts. using $300,000 in HUD capital funds, plans to use $6.7 Million in HUD funds to build 25 energy-efficient affordable housing units at the end of Mt. Bethel Church St. and erecting a new greenhouse beside the existing community garden at Weatherly Heights Apts. courtesy of a $10,000 green energy grant from Duke Energy Foundation.

HUD officials were complimentary of the various partnerships RHA has to develop and maintain four community gardens, a nationally-recognized digital inclusion program supported by HUD and a growing senior food distribution operation.
